Management System and Operational Leadership

The training we received in Japan in 1988 was called Shochou (Chief, Director, Head) – Buchou (Head of a department or Division Manager). Within the training it encompassed all the Lean principles and techniques and responsibilities for each management group from supervisors to managers to directors.

Once we were trained in these techniques, we were asked to develop similar training for the US. From that came the first MDI (Managing for Daily Improvement) classes. These classes should be comprised of Managers, Supervisors and Leads with a daily report out to a division manager, director or plant president.
Deliverables from this class include a level understanding of Lean principles, visual management, leader standard work for all who attend and the implementation of 20 day projects supervisors will complete from that class forward.
